Fascism is corporatist, usually. This is a centre-right economic policy. But fascists are far-right socially. Some fascist governments, however, embraced free-market capitalism (Pinochet and Franco later on).

This is objectively incorrect. In order to understand fascism, we have to abstain from calling people like Trump fascists. Trump is not a fascist. He comes close, but the distinction is still there. He doesn’t believe in palingenetic ultranationalism. He believes in liberalism.

(Continued) Some of the hallmarks of fascism are missing from Trump’s purported beliefs. Namely, an opposition to liberal democracy, disdain for modernism, fetishization of violence, and the celebration of strict social hierarchy as a natural and inherently good system.

I think Thomas Franks next book is going to be about populism. I'm hoping people will get educated on this subject esp with Trumps remarks re "mobs". There is nothing wrong with populism....with an informed populace. Uninformed it becomes fascist.

So,
@mobilematt thinks that all dictators are the same? That's awfully ahistorical. Socialism is not the same as fascism. Stalin's socialist military smashed fascism. Stalin was correctly condemned for many things by the CPSU, but fascism was not one of them.
