Society is an emergent behavior of individuals' memes. It appears on a distributed system with each node running simple behavioral patterns.
Nodes of so-called civilized society are equipped with memes to police their peers, detecting unwanted and potentially dangerous behavior and then triggering protocols to remove these defective parts.

"Dangerous" can be behavior which endangers the ability of nodes to take part in the system, or behavior which endangers the emergent behavior itself (eb-threatening).

In the past, node policing was only possible by means of isolation or destruction of affected nodes. However, this resulted in defective memes to defend themselves, resulting in a huge policing overhead, with cases of societal collapse.

Modern networks have developed more efficient ways to deal with eb-threatening defective nodes by equipping nodes with honeypots, encouraging peers' deviant behaviors. Then, service to defective nodes would slowly be degraded, causing self-isolation or even self-destruction.
