Instead of a check mark or music note, you’ll now see a grey background behind verified channel names across YouTube. You’ll also see a note about the change when you hover over a verified channel name to help everyone get familiar with it.

...That is actually going to make it more difficult to determine, and creates an extra step the user must intentionally act upon in order to determine verification. This is the exact opposite of "making it easier."
