Before these adventures, I had the immense fortune to receive teachings on Dzogchen & Tantra from powerful scholar-practitioners. Transmuted all the energy I had funneled toward neuroscience research into meditations I facilitated @ an Episcopal church.https://twitter.com/NoaidiX/status/1250075163279765505?s=20 …

Upon going rogue and mastering out of a Ph.D. in neuroscience in 2016, I wound up back at the monastery where I had trained two years prior, followed by a string of other monasteries across Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, etc. It was a profoundly healing adventure. pic.twitter.com/INJHqqZ3SG

Six days of the week (all except Sundays) a small group of us meditated at the church. This continued for approximately two years until my departure. So many colorful characters wandered through. The church even had garden plots for small-scale farming.https://twitter.com/NoaidiX/status/1234236330483183616?s=20 …

In a previous life, I grew kale on the grounds of an Episcopal church. In a second iteration of contemplative horticulture, I grew collard greens at a Chinese Buddhist monastery. What else and where else should come next? Getting really into snap peas lately. pic.twitter.com/fcYqMfUAgF

We began in '13 one eve per week but had virtually taken over the church by '14, starting with weekday mornings & soon expanding into Saturdays + a second eve by '15. Occasionally the reverend joined us. They even let us set up a makeshift Buddhist altar. https://twitter.com/NoaidiX/status/1234276681570873344?s=20 …pic.twitter.com/enfS0AaGIL

During this time, I grew increasingly disillusioned with mainstream academia. Seeds planted throughout that era convinced me to close the neuro grad student chapter & delve into nomadic-monastic life. Within a few months, I wound up atop Mt. Kōya in Japan.https://twitter.com/NoaidiX/status/1243702957146685441?s=20 …

In October 2016, as if harvesting the summer's crop, I undertook bodhisattva ordination via the Brahmajāla Bodhisattva Śīla Sūtra and the Mahāvairocana Abhisaṃbodhi Vikurvita Adhiṣṭhāna Tantra at Kongōbuji, the Shingon (Japanese Vajrayāna) headquarters on Mt. Kōya, Japan. 🙏pic.twitter.com/c4LSRLuqYi

Such a fruitful saga spanning wide swaths of contemplative terrain, bridging worlds while traversing the bowels of a neuroscience department to emerge on the other side atop Mt. Kōya in Japan.
