      1) In grad school I did a paper on interpretive methods with contemplative/ "mystical" texts that state they cannot put what they most want to say into words. Those texts often include practice instructions as an (only) way to understand the tropic words they do in fact use.

2/2) So, in addition to various linguistic analyses (attention to references to silence, employment of oxymoron, etc), I suggested we actually do the practices if we want to understand the texts. Profs were concerned about my "objectivity." (But I still went to a monastery...)

Story of my life. Got exiled from a former lab and Psycho-Neuro department for my lack of "objectivity" so ventured for refuge to the Religious Studies and Philosophy departments, which were only slightly more accommodating. Eventually fled the country and sought monastic asylum.

A year back, I attended a presentation at an anthropology dept where one of the faculty described his recent experience doing a 7-day meditation retreat. It was well received; it didn't fitting, though, to mention to them I've done at least one such retreat annually for 40 years.
