How do I meditate on my thoughts? Seems like the goal cant be to enter a no mind state. Is it as simple as making sure you aren't swept away by a day dream—staying present, non-judgemental, and unattached to your thoughts?

A flimsy mind will capsize. With a solid foundation in equanimity, even in the absence of a meditation "object" as anchor, sailing will be mostly smooth. Occasionally, waves of thought will rock the boat, but not enough to whip it around or take you under. Balance is key.

Maintaining an anchor, such as the breath or another stabilizing "object" of meditation, in the midst of the waves while watching them come and go is one way to interweave these practices.

Thank you
Im not really sure what I even mean by meditating on my thoughts.
A quick google search for open monitoring shows me that I've mostly been doing focused attention meditation. But in a way that also feels like open monitoring bc i let a lot of things come and go -
They're complementary aspects of practice that I often interweave.
