While behind a paywall, it seems mindfulness depends most on metacognitive beliefs motivating how we allocate resources. I wonder how motivated people are to cultivate mindfulness of death (maraṇasati) in these times with resources already spread thin.

Two thoughts to add, if I may. 1) This makes sense because we can be mindful of how mentally fatigued we are. 2) This makes me think of doubt as a hindrance as an unhelpful set of meta-cognitive beliefs: eg "I can't be mindful, I've used up all of my attention."
