I used to clean toilets in a hotel but it was anything but contemplative

Context/intention can make a world of difference. The flow (and mental flush) induced by toilet cleaning had a cleansing effect for me, integrating seamlessly with contemplative practice. Same with farming and vigorously scrubbing pots & pans in the monastery's kitchen.
