A contemplative practice—be it psychotherapy, meditation, or even introspection—has to involve ethics. Is this a realization you come across, or is it something that must be taught?
Too often I've heard, usually from within academia, "I don't care about ethics," translating to, "I don't care about caring about whether what I do helps or hurts others." Perhaps it's just the limited sampling of people I've encountered, but they just don't seem to care, period.

it's a sick culture full of traumatized people. almost like a prison or a boy's school -- an emphasis placed on seeming invulnerable so as to avoid bullying.
