A contemplative practice—be it psychotherapy, meditation, or even introspection—has to involve ethics. Is this a realization you come across, or is it something that must be taught?

ethics is just a word for caring about whether what you do helps or hurts other people (and animals). if people dont' care about that, they are pretty messed up. I hope they mean they are ignoring it "for the time being" or something

Too often I've heard, usually from within academia, "I don't care about ethics," translating to, "I don't care about caring about whether what I do helps or hurts others." Perhaps it's just the limited sampling of people I've encountered, but they just don't seem to care, period.
