#RandomDougThoughts:
Hyper-sensitivity, whether it's inter-personal, emotional, sensory, energetic, or psychic, without a well structured and functional ego through which to process it, is more of a curse than the super power it could be.

this is in fact my biggest problem with meditation. i get more sensitive and become overwhelmed, distracted, and tired.

That is true for so many people! But it’s not necessarily how you’ll respond going forward. We all need experienced teachers to help us through this stuff. Right now I’m noticing that I don’t seem to need much sleep—but not sure if I’m kidding myself.

Yes, my wife and a few of my kids are on the hyper-sensitivity side of things and I really fear where they would be if we did not have our meditation and clearing tools and our maps.

yes one of the specific pieces of awareness meditation has given to me is the extent to which i am always on one hand trying to keep my sensitivity in acceptable bounds and on the other hand trying to amuse myself sensually.

it’s fine in a way, but there is so much throwing of too much away, a dremel where a chisel would be enough

Meditation has seemingly heightened both sensitivity and equanimity for me. Colors/sounds/smells/flavors/sensations are perceived with immense intensity (although sensitivity was already high at baseline) but at some point, they ceased causing strain, from what I can tell.
