By watching what, I wonder? Most of these quotes are actually traceable, split between the Pāli suttas and Prajñāpāramitā sūtras, but some are a mystery. Will have to run some searches on sakko-devānam-indo/śakro-devānām-indro this weekend to see what can be unearthed on this.https://twitter.com/_BuddhaQuotes/status/1228525075974033408 …

There’s a great story about Indra where he’s fighting the baddies and just flat stops b/c he notices he’s hurrying baby eagles in their nests. The baddies retreat b/c they think he has reinforcements coming (he doesn’t). He wins. Diligence paid off.

Sounds Jātaka-esque, but perhaps this could be Vedic in origin? What is the source, if I may ask?

Aṅguttara Nikāya might be relevant to that quote too—shows Indra gaining liberation from three poisons by excelling in meritorious action (despite not doing so well with meditation)

And the Saṃyutta Nikāya as well, where Sakka's virtues are highlighted in an entire chapter largely devoted to praising him, despite a few jabs here and there. My favorite Indra story is from Fazang's 華嚴經傳記, also featured in the 宋高僧傳 and 大方廣佛華嚴經感應傳.
