Indeed, the union of samatha and vipassanā (samathavipassanaṃ *yuga*naddhaṃ) is Buddhist yoga. Whereas the Koṭṭhika Sutta's oxen are sense organ and sense object, whose fetter (saṃ*yoja*naṃ) is desire and greed (chandarāgo)... 1/2

...the Yuganaddha Sutta's oxen are two complementary aspects of contemplative practice, samatha and vipassanā, "yoked" in such a way as to conduce to the ultimate "unyoking" of mind, complete freedom from bondage. 2/2
