Hey #BuddhistStudiesTwitter (maybe not a thing, but I'm making it a thing): I've been relying on Gethin's _Foundations of Buddhism_ for a long time to teach my basic Intro to Buddhism classes. I want to do something different next term. What other books work at the intro level?

Mix and match chapters, but they all lack something, I feel. I sorta like Strong's "Experience" book because it's primary sources, with nice little introductions, and it's small/short! Many students really like the old Rahula "What the Buddha Taught" also.

I've never looked at it, but Gombrich has "What the Buddha Thought" too which is meant for students, I wonder how that is as a companion? Usually I teach the class historically, so that's quite a bit different for "textbooks" along these lines.

This is exactly what I've been brainstorming recently. If ever allowed to teach, I'd pair Rahula's What the Buddha Taught with Gombrich's What the Buddha Thought, sprinkling in primary sources from the canon. Would love to hear from anyone who's already experimented with this!
