Besides the introductions, stuff by Thanissaro, Garfield’s Engaging Buddhism, David Loy’s social/political oriented stuff (and Ken Kraft), Steven Batchelor (not sure if he’s taken seriously)—I guess I was curious what *you* all thought must reads were.

So I’m going to suggest something that others might disagree with. I would recommend Steven Collins’ Selfless Persons as a must-read. It can be slow going, so I would recommend orienting oneself to it with the following two essays...

Selfless Persons was loaned to me by my undergraduate philosophy of mind professor, a 60+ year old yoga practitioner who also did Indian philosophy. I remember it fondly, reading in between bursts of data analysis during my previous life as a neuroscience research assistant.
