There's power in both "doing" and "not-doing" (not killing, not stealing, etc.). So-called "parlor monks" (monastic recluses) might contribute to the off-setting of insanity through abstention from insane activity.

Apologies it was not my intent to offer criticism but to ask if enough is being done both in our individual practices or in our out reach. Is an hour or two sufficient? Each of us has an atmosphere which subtly interacts with those whom we come into contact, alluded to earlier

No criticism detected. Perhaps I can rephrase. By abstaining from adding to the problem, one has mitigated and minimized damage. Such non-action casts unobstrusive ripples into the social atmosphere, influencing others quietly, often unbeknownst to them. Such are my observations.

Parlor monks refers to newly minted meditation industry. Does it seem that the vast majority of consciousness researchers understand consciousness experientially? It does not seem so to me. Machines pretending to be something other defining themselves as conscious agents. IMO

I have a great deal of respect for any individual who engages in practice. FYI my practice is very different from the more common forms of engagement. It is a very aggressive even confrontational engagement with the processes summed up by Dogen as "I generation and extinction"

My experience with this coming and going of presence has in many ways left me the odd man out. Do not even know how to ask meaningful questions. Here is a hesitant question. Do you see the movement of thought as it rises from the foundation blooming and becoming?

Is the ability to follow multiple thought streams an aberration or a skill? IE engage in a internal chant and visualize an image simultaneously. If skill what to do with it?

Existence requires engagement. Is it possible to exist without a self? Does ones Buddha nature itself, constitute a self? I wonder if when you are reading following the words you have observed the moment when imagination comes into the process? 2 streams 1 verbal 1 visual

An instance of an "I" or a self in relation to the external world is a boundary event arising out of the interaction of some external stimulus and the organism itself. It is generally either a conditioned response or an authentic engagement rooted in the body itself. I M O

Mechanics/ With the exception of the essential self/Buddha Nature all internal self's are imagination or artifacts. What is the role of attention in the generation of an I. From what source does attention come, what generates it? Can attention and selfness be separated? IMO

Zhaozhou says a dog does not *have* Buddha nature. Dōgen says all beings *are* Buddha nature. Can attention and impermanence be separated? Can attention and awakening be separated?

Attention its movements and generation greatly interest me. It is one of the fundamental questions driving my current inquires. "impermanence" is part of generation IMO Buddha nature is the essential qualities inherent in form and function. My dog certainly has a Buddha nature.

Your dog *has* Buddha nature or your dog *is* Buddha nature? There's a significant difference, at least for Zhaozhou and Dōgen.
