In the Bāhiya Sutta, the Buddha appears to provide instructions on unmediated awareness. That which is seen (diṭṭha), heard (suta), sensed (muta), and cognized (viññāta) are simply seen, heard, sensed, and cognized. 1/
The way I've been using the term, a substance is any"thing" with fixed/unchanging identity - whether material or immaterial. Language conventions revolve heavily around substance, so the alternate process model may not make much sense at first. 2/

I am unfamiliar with the term process metaphysics though perhaps intimately familiar with the concept. For over 40 years my personal efforts have been to consciously engage the process of coming into presence.

Simply we become identified with some sense impression or thought and following the path of least resistance are absorbed/subsumed by the sense impression or thought. This might be stated in this way. I am attention engaged either passively or actively with sense and impression.
