Your post has the feeling of an authentic an observation/understanding. I think that at some point each of us must come to the point where we rather then regurgitate what we have read begin to formulate in our own words what we understand.

My rendering Passively experienced sensation attracts attention which by association attaches to the shades of past deeds reinforcing the conditioned state. Actively experienced sensation attracts attention which freely engaged acts as a solvent dissolving the karma of past deeds
