21-day course at Wat Chom Tong, after which one can choose to stay longer. Retreat format starts off "light" with 10 minutes of sitting/walking alternated throughout the day—test of patience for me, since I prefer longer sits. Time is gradually added as the weeks wear on. 1/2
No solid food after noon. Daily report to instructors (10-20 min) but otherwise solo practice. Retreat ends "heavy" with a 72-hour marathon—all meditation, no sleep. Style is Mahasi ("noting") vipassana. Located in northern Thailand, just south of Chiang Mai by bus. 2/2
