As someone who works in this industry it absolutely does. Startups cannot afford an army of lawyers or the risks involved in hiring a key individual and losing them to the lottery. Most startups explicitly advertise that they won’t hire someone who needs sponsorship.

Do employers like H1B because they can evade regulations like overtime and such? Just wondering.
-

Clearly you've never had to work in a room full of these critters.
-
"Critters"?! What the fuck?!
-
Hold off, sarge. I've been in the trenches.
-
Did you just call immigrants animals?
-
Please!
-
ma'am, my family is part of those "critters' you just described. my father is a programmer in microsoft, may i ask you what is your issue with people like us trying to earn an honest living ?
-
Rhetorical question, or just a tantrum?

I'm in tech and I support this idea. Said a different way: LET'S STEAL THE SMARTEST PEOPLE FROM THE WHOLE WORLD AND KEEP THEM HERE. Do this enough and you can probably build your country into a world superpower.

I have worked and competed with H-1B folks most of my career. The competition is a healthy one.

Instead of 'proving' how good 'foreigners' are for a country, maybe it's time focus shifted to the racist haters for how unreasonable they are for their prejudice. This just indulges them further. Time to switch things around. It does mean examining white supremacy though.

As you are tweeting this, there are companies who don't sponsor at all. Like they don't hire H1B people and I am like why would you want to hurt your company by rejecting that pool of talent. And I am talking about big multi million $ companies. I don't get it

H1 as it currently stands is awkward (there’s a lottery so you have only abou 1/3 chance to actually see the person you’ve extended an offer to)
