Yep. "The Face of Seung-Hui Cho" is one of the most raw, unsettling, eye-opening things I have ever read. It changed the whole way I think about life, and about American society. And although it's a decade old, it's highly relevant to modern politics.https://twitter.com/Mont_Jiang/status/1056941322685292544 …

Wes Yang (
@wesyang) is a truly great writer, and though we often disagree about political stuff, his insights are never shallow or ill-considered. You should buy his book:https://www.amazon.com/Souls-Yellow-Folk-Essays/dp/0393241742 …2 replies 4 retweets 22 likesShow this thread -
He also writes a column about the culture wars, which you can read here:https://www.tabletmag.com/tag/meme-wars

Wow I abhor this column but it is definitely the most thoughtful, least inane critique of post-liberal social justice ideology I have ever read. MUCH better than the raft of articles and books we got from white men after the election.

Are you sure "abhor" is the right word in this case, then?

Yes. I hate it profoundly. It is just in that category of things I despise but I’m glad for the existence of. Like I used to think about broccoli until I had good broccoli.

Broccoli is almost always good, dammit. You and my sister and George H.W. Bush can go have your little Broccoli Haters Club over there in the corner!

Um, no. Regular ass steamed broccoli is REVOLTING, even if you put a little salt and butter on it or whatever. But if you prepare it well it is quite good, like brussels sprouts.

Apropos of nothing, I once ate nothing but steamed broccoli and goldfish crackers for a day, back in college.

Anti-broccolists must learn to live with discomfort in the new age of broccoli justice... :D
