When Republicans started to believe in racial bloc voting - when they stopped believing that nonwhite people could ever be persuaded to vote Republican - they started to see immigration as an invasion. This explains why immigration is now at the center of partisan conflict.https://twitter.com/SenatorBrakey/status/1056540826317283328 …
The problem with Dems isn't responsiveness to minority voters; that's good. It's believing - and loudly saying - that demographic change will propel them to inevitable victory. Which some Dem strategists have done (e.g. Judis and Teixeira).

I see. I don’t think that comes off clearly in your tweets. It sounds as if it is the messaging to minority voters is the problem. I certainly agree that there is nothing inevitable there.

I should have been more clear about what role I thought Dems have played. It's the demographic triumphalism that's the problem, not minority voter outreach.

Gotcha. Agreed then haha. European immigrants used to be solid Democrat voters too...

No worries! They will serve as a useful lead-in for any other people who thought I was criticizing Dems for catering to the needs of minority voters! :-)
