One party accepts the norms of polite political debate and one does not. I've argued for a while that the core unifying ideology of the Republicans is increasingly not conservatism, but authoritarianism.

With some of these I wonder how they measure party membership. A lot of states are seeing large rises in Independent affiliation (Florida is a big one). Could be moderates have headed for middle?
