When Republicans started to believe in racial bloc voting - when they stopped believing that nonwhite people could ever be persuaded to vote Republican - they started to see immigration as an invasion. This explains why immigration is now at the center of partisan conflict.https://twitter.com/SenatorBrakey/status/1056540826317283328 …

Idk. This is obviously less true of Democrats than Republicans as Democrats are still reliant on getting at least 40-45% of white votes and will be presumably forever thanks to the Senate.
-
You'd think so, yeah, but I've lost count of the number of "swing voters don't exist, we've just got to turn out the base" takes I've read from the Dem side...
-
I mean that is the line in Texas (as it should be), but “the base” isn’t drawn on racial lines. It is drawn on cultural lines, perhaps, but not racial ones. Of course, I think cultural lines among white ppl are more or less identical to integrated vs segregated whites so.
-
Also for all those takes every race I’ve followed pivoted to persuading Republicans after the primary. Gone is single-payer and gun control, welcome to “quality healthcare for all Americans” and “I respect the second amendment.”
-
That's interesting. How long can Dem politicians resist the inexorable force of TAKES?
-
As long as voter focus groups exist.
-
I imagine Takes as a sort of cone of metal and guns rolling down the street screeching and firing rounds into the air, like in the ending of Tetsuo the Iron Man...

You were doing ok until you hit "both parties". You should know to use that phrase very thoughtfully. There is no Dem equivalent to GOP focus on white voters.
-
Take it back Noah. You don’t see Ds demonizing whites like Rs do to blacks.
-
Where did I say they did? How can I take back something I never claimed? You have reading comprehension issues, my dude.
-
My mistake if I’m misinterpreting you, but can you see why you’re being called out for a tired both-sides take?
-
Of course I can see why you're (wrongly) calling me out. You're in a hyperpartisan frame of mind, and you interpret every tweet you read in terms of the standard arguments you've read 1000 times before. It's lazy and un-self-aware, but hey.
-
Sadly there’s no shortage of takes like yours. I’m sorry you’re offended by me challenging your doubtless intelllectual superiority. Just your standard twitter dumbass here!
-
Instead of just going "NO U", you should read the tweets of the other people who made similar complaints, who quickly realized what I meant!
-
Could we get a
@paulkrugman ruling?

Wish you hadn’t ended this with a both sides claim.
-
I know you wish that, but everything I said is right, regardless.
-
Maybe. Except for that last part
-
No, that last part is 100% right. You might be reading things into it that aren't there...

How do Democrats suppress white turnout?
-
They haven't tried that yet. Not clear they ever will. If they did, it would probably involve suppressing rural turnout somehow.
-
Short of a constitutional amendment, not sure what mechanics are even there to do this kind of thing. I think it's unfair to equate that with the very real suppression from other side.
-
I just had to add "or suppress turnout" because the GOP is doing this, and I didn't want to leave that part out.
-
Ok I see what you were going for, let's blame this confusion on Twitter.
