Great piece overall, but did Vietnam fail because of communism? I believe there might be certain other factors at play there, like, I don't know, the most bombs ever dropped on a country? Same goes for Korea.

South Korea was actually poorer than North Korea for a few years after the war. It also got destroyed. Then it recovered and became rich. North Korea...did not.

I'd argue that the key factors in South Korea's recovery were the technology from Japan, tons of foreign aid, and decent education, something the North never had. There is nothing socialist about not having technology, foreign aid, and decent education.
