New York City is almost as polite as Tokyo, almost as safe as Tokyo, and almost as convenient as Tokyo. How amazing is that.

Especially if you drill down to just Manhattan. At this point there isn't one neighborhood in 'the city' that I would feel unsafe in. Seems you're arguing with people who don't spend time in NYC
-
Then it's better to campare Manhattan to a prefecture of Tokyo. Tokyo is miles ahead of NY in terms of service, facilities, infrastructure.

Another way to phrase it: In Tokyo you have a 0.0003% chance of getting murdered. In New York, you have a 0.003% chance. I feel safe lumping both of those in the “pretty darn unlikely” column.
-
Just for the sake of clarity, I assume that's per year?

Yes.

How many dead people is that difference?
