All this “new” tech is going after solved problems. Credit cards provide all the functionality of crypto (except criminal anonymity) more cheaply and effectively. And block chain doesn’t do anything a well backed up database can’t do (also more cheaply).

agree BUT the cc+database system is only as secure and robust as the "worst" users. easy for one lazy service provider to screw it up for everyone. crypto makes it distributed and secure by design

Right. But CC is so profitable, even at their low transaction costs, that CC easily eats fraud losses (which they’ve gotten much better at detecting). Crypto frauds are gone forever. Anonymity is a bug, not a feature, for legal transactions.
