The tradeoff of course remains that there is less money available to provide public services. When progressives in the US figure out how to pay for what they want to do here, they assume more money than would actually exist should we transition to that form of government.

It's weird how all of those countries magically for the public services we're still fighting for here.

Actually they are very realistic about what they can actually provide, whereas American progressives are dreaming a lot bigger. Such as a single payer health care system that is free for dental, vision, all health care, no copays.

They also of course decide not to spend enough on defense to have a chance in hell should Russia get frisky. Calculated risk there.
