RCV is a meme. I don't know why people push for it when score voting exists.

Why is this important? Ranked voting isn't about reducing partisanship, it's about letting people vote for who they want the most without wasting votes.

This is less a question of the results and more a question of interpretation, but is RCV increasing racial polarization or simply unmasking racial polarization that gets covered over by single choice voting?
-
At least in Santa Clara, rcv was pitched explicitly not as preventing racial polarization, but that it would increase Asian representation by assuming it would increase racial polarization.

but... aren't local races categorically different from the kind of mind-bending ultra-tribal national races? like way more ticket splitting, lack of party loyalty, etc? if so, perhaps RCV may serve a fundamentally different role at a larger scale

I would say two main things - adjusting to New equilibria w/r/t electoral system changes takes time, would love to see data a generation from now And I and many other electoral reform advocates would additionally emphasize that RCV is ideally a stepping stone to bigger reform
-
(also, personally I see "reduce polarization" as at most a secondary goal of electoral reform though obviously others will disagree)

I totally agree but huge numbers of people believe voter fraud is a problem so this is waaaay past their comprehension. If results are not what they expect they would consider the system to be fraudulent.

It takes a while to change a culture, and small systems in a larger context get swamped by cultural effects. Gotta start somewhere.

Erstwhile reformers always assume that politicians and voters will not game a new set of voting rules but everyone adjusts behavior to any change in the rules to seek their own best advantage.

Single Transferable vote? Does that have any statistics? I need to know because Multi member districts in the house with STV is my political dream
-
How is STV different than RCV?
