There's a 'feeling of' meaning (and belief, etc.) which isn't itself meaning; we associate the two because they tend to occur together.

Not this next part is NOT scientific "just merely cultural", but Jonathan Haidt is a big fan of this theory. It is similar yet slightly different than his "moral foundations" theory.
