1/With people freaking out about the Honduran migrant caravan now forcing its way through Mexico, I figured it might be time for a thread about Central American immigration.https://www.bloomberg.com/news/photo-essays/2018-10-21/migrant-caravan-continues-toward-u-s-even-as-trump-threatens-military-intervention …

You don't think that 12 million illegal immigrants from a single country is a problem? They are here now. There are endless legal problems now. We need to figure out what to do RIGHT NOW.
-
Just give em amnesty and be done with it. It won't cause a bunch more to come.
-
That is politically impossible.
-
OK. So what do you want to do? Send ICE into every American's house to check their papers? Round up unauthorized immigrants into camps? Is it worth it to turn our country into a police state to kick out 6 million Mexicans? Where are your priorities?!
-
Giving them amnesty is politically impossible. Kicking them out is practically and politically impossible. Putting them in camps is morally, practically, and politically impossible. Your recent tweets seem to imply you think there is no problem. I disagree.

I mean, I don't think the presence of those 6 million Mexicans in our country is much of a problem. It puts some strains on some local govt. finances, sure. And it pisses some conservatives off. But I'm not freaking out about it, personally.

I am 62 years old and have lived in the midwest, south and Appalachia, working in and around factories. I hear people complain about immigrants -- but I can't remember it ever really being a problem. Except when there weren't enough to pick tomatoes.

Having an exploited permanent underclass is economically advantageous, but also a serious moral problem.
