Do suspect that in case like Harvard, many of the whites (as well as many minorities)who are gaining admission are from top prep school or have connections to school(alumni, faculty, or donors). Of course Asian's increasingly attend top prep school so discrepancy may go away. 3/

In many ways, the moral argument based on "compensating for past discrimination" is much more compelling. In the case of a place like Harvard, the net effect of promoting diversity in part gives a boost to upper middle class (of in some cased truly privileged) minority kids. 2/

FYI - Harvard statistician actively argued against increasing SES plus up as an offset to lowering use of race. And SFFA statistician noted that Af Am are the one group that gets minimal benefit from the existing SES plus up.
