Out of curiosity, what sort of evidence would allow us to compare the amounts of drivel across fields with diverse methods, purposes, and domains of applicability?

Though measuring the effect research has on our societies is likely impossible to measure. Perhaps most papers in Gender Studies don't get cited. But the work and thinking from those working on issues of gender have lead to a kinder and freer society, no?
