By endorsing a policy of confiscating land from rich landlords (with minimal compensation) and distributing it to poor farmers, Ladejinsky saved much of East Asia from communism. This story, I think, has some lessons for the modern day.

Sort of, except communists generally collectivized land instead of passing it out to small farmers to own.

Yep. Well, I mean it wasn't *just* a blunder. Putting peasants on collective farms made it less likely that they'd revolt (again), and do to the communist leadership what they had just done to the old order.

Yeah but...I mean if japan *didn’t* revolt when we gave them the land, why would the peasants when the communists did it?

Seems like the best way to preclude violent revolution is to like...actually have a functioning economy

Maybe. But there are lots of historical cases where elites stifle the economy in order to preserve their power.

True. Guess the communists didn’t catch the difference between ‘stifle’ and ‘starve millions’
