Wolf Ladejinsky, the guy who convinced the U.S. government to support land reform in Japan and Taiwan, and one of the greatest unsung heroes of modern history, WAS A GEORGIST!! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wolf_Ladejinsky …

I'm not sure redistributing commodity hardware from server farms is going to have the same salutary effect.
-
How about houses?
-
The land reform redistributed productive assets that were relatively hard to alienate to people who knew how to operate them effectively. I'm struggling to think of a modern day equivalent.
-
I'm not sure how "redistributing housing," whatever that means operationally, is supposed to be equivalent to redistributing farmland. A farm isn't just a house, it comes with a job attached.
-
Taking care of your house takes a lot of work!
-
"Induce GDP growth by breaking and fixing your own windows!"
-
Uh, no. Houses and the surrounding property naturally depreciate and require lots of maintenance and care.

Wait so...he used one of the key reforms of...communism...to prevent the spread of...communism
-
Sort of, except communists generally collectivized land instead of passing it out to small farmers to own.
-
Idiots
-
Yep. Well, I mean it wasn't *just* a blunder. Putting peasants on collective farms made it less likely that they'd revolt (again), and do to the communist leadership what they had just done to the old order.
-
Yeah but...I mean if japan *didn’t* revolt when we gave them the land, why would the peasants when the communists did it?
-
Dunno, they probably just weren't taking any chances.

Why didn't we send him to Latin America?
-
Because we were idiots and assholes
-
true dat
-
McCarthy smeared him as a communist even though he fled the USSR and spent his life fighting communism. His political career was basically done after that.

Land Banks?
-
Although I’m not a Georgist, the need to basically make 18-hole golf courses illegal is pretty big. Also we need “no hoarding” rules where you can’t just buy a plot of land and sit on it forever
