Because we could enjoy silly movies without having everyone bash them on Twitter?

Because we were involved in an epic struggle worth remembering. If your country had actually been taken over by communism, you wouldn't find it so silly.

It was the military aspect that was silly; obviously that kind of operation would be impossible. As for the epic struggle, I'm glad to have won it and put it behind us. The alternative would be the USSR still existing...

Actually it would probably be good if the USSR still existed, because it would provide a counterweight to China, and the presence of a socialist superpower would push America to the Right.

You guys aren't even sharing the same argument. Antonio is arguing actual history that had life-and-death implications for millions. Noah is... splashing in the shallow end of the pool.

Correct. If he'd lived it, particularly surrounded by people who'd been uprooted by it, and for whom the violent struggles it unleashed in their region were the daily reality, he'd stop posting only vaguely-related graphs.

Wait a sec. I'm not saying the Cold War wasn't important, or wasn't terrible for the people on the front lines of it. Did you think that's what I was arguing?!

My consistent position throughout this argument, from the first tweet to the last, has been that the world, and human life, is better now than during the Cold War. Meanwhile, Antonio seems to have flipped his stance on this a couple times in this thread.
