I was a very early supporter of Barack Obama when he ran for the Senate. We, on campuses, were his base in the D primary. IL is two states: upper half is Massachusetts, south of I-80 is Arkansas. The first speech I saw him give downstate, I thought: this guy is going *very far.*

I think it's alarming how divided the country is on the basic issues upon which there is legitimate controversy. We're falling into this trap of tribalism that the Founders warned against. Hell if I know what the solution is, but maybe to agree to maintain civility is step #1.

I most certainly did watch Crossfire. I'm not saying that the government should intervene to somehow lessen the difference between the two narratives. I'm trying to be terse about something for which I have an opinion that would take some time to spell out.
