OR a supermajority of state legislatures, I suppose...

noah, this is particularly distasteful considering what’s going on with voter purging, thendecimation of the voting rights act, mass incarceration and disenfranchisement among poor and minority populations in several states
-
Why the hell is it "distasteful" in light of those things? I want to change those things just as much as you do.
-
people aren’t idiots. it’s quite clear that every hand is stacked against certain subclasses winning elections. i don’t think folks would just jump straight to “burn the senate to the ground” if they thought change possible through prescribed methods
-
it’s like telling a wheelchair-bound person who’s begging for a ramp to just take the stairs like everyone else
-
So are you advocating armed revolt? If not, still gotta win elections to change the system.
-
The ramp analogy is bad because in the case of the ramp, you don't actually have to get in the door before the ramp gets built. You DO have to win elections to change the electoral system.

And these are supposed to be the people defending us from Trump's attack on American governing institutions?
-
Yes. 51 Senators represent 18% of the population. Time to get rid of these anachronisms.

Decentralize

Too much legislation at Federal level. More discretion for local gov, maybe exclusion powers.

Under our current system, a citizen who votes Democrat has less weight than a citizen who votes Republican. Does it seem right to you that two citizens' votes should be unequal?
-
I don’t buy this one. It’s switched several times throughout US history. It doesn’t favor one party or the other. If just places states and people on the same level (which is also crazy for some)

I’m pretty engaged in politics and this is literally the first I’ve heard of this. I read halfway through and no cabal was named so I left.
