Agree with you Jorge, CCP seem quite awful. I’m alarmed that Pinera suggested China join TTP(i dont see the wisdom behind such a move). Any insights into that?

Chile doesn't have much of a strategy in international relations, except for promoting free trade, and some sort of integration in the region, so it's seems kinda natural that if the US leaves us, we gravitate to the one big market that's promoting free trade.

USSR, from Stalin on, at least, was also not very interested in revolution or world conquest. Soviet foreign policy had been described as "defensive imperialism": they'll take what they consider necessary for their security, but not conquer for conquest's sake. 1/

In a sense, USSR-China comparison is not too inappropriate. China, like USSR, will seek to dominate its near abroad and might easily try to prick us by supporting various "troublemakers." 2/

Economically competent up until they have to not have a dictator. That is literally the one thing that makes them have longevity (Dengism). Jingping’s power grab makes China have a liability they didn’t have before.
