Prof Raymond Buriel (may he rest in peace) taught us to use the terms accurately, although that is usually the case in psychology classes. I'm not Chicano, but I certainly got the impression from him that he preferred the term, and did not like being called Hispanic.
If anyone is wondering: Chicano means Mexican-American, Latino means from Latin America, and Hispanic means from Spanish descent.
The Census defines Hispanic as "a person of Cuban, Mexican, Puerto Rican, South or Central American, or other Spanish culture or origin regardless of race".
Thanks, that's interesting. I assume it is to keep things simple as there are only seven racial categories in the Census, so it's not surprising that the definition if overly-broad.
Yeah. I use it because it's the broadest category...
Fair enough, but I'd advocate delineating in your own writing. A lot of original peoples from Latin America & Mexico, whose ancestors suffered at the hands of the Spanish, would be included in that definition, and I doubt they'd identify as Hispanic before Chicano/Latino.
Or Chicana/Latina, I should have said.
Depends on the area (see Sacramento picture) and heres another Source the story of the immigrant second generation by Berkeley and new york Mexicans - 56% of their children identified their race as Mexican, 25% as Latino, 12% as Chicano, and 2% Whitepic.twitter.com/cfSnaynYHn
Thanks! Would you please reply with links to both sources?

However, when presented with a combined race and ethnicity question, identification as white was reduced to 13.7% and 56.4% of participants identified as Hispanic only.
And something underreported is if whites even want Latinos to be white or live with them And the answer is lmao no https://www.cambridge.org/core/journals/du-bois-review-social-science-research-on-race/article/latinao-whitening/B9FBE7377B35C96DCAD814020F887807 … Democrat appeal to Latinos dramatically decrases white vote https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007%2Fs11109-018-9462-8 … We're fine with Asians though:
