Russia has hit U.S. weapons depots, US/UK training sites, even those occupied by special forces. Sites that house rebel families. Etc.

And surrendering support for the Sunni / Kurd factions that oppose Assad won't end the insurgency, it;ll just sacrifice regional good will.
