Trump's defenders making a pretty valid argument that the president can change US priorities abroad at will. But the president is not making this case. He's insisting nothing happened and US interests in Europe remain unchanged. Facts as they are, not as you'd like them to be.

I agree with much of this, but even that argument would be hampered by the personal/political nature of the shift in policy. Involving your personal attorney who has stated publicly that these were personal requests is a huge problem even if they shifted the defense strategy.
