They can’t?! My Dad always said he was a feminist, his reason being that he would “never treat 50% of the population like a second class citizen.”

As an ex said to me. "I help you with the housework" He lived with me. Any man that doesn't get this is a misogynist. Oh by the way in case anyone asks we were both working full time.

My ex-husband (split 17 years ago) used to publicly spout the "I'm a feminist" line. It sounded so cool and edgy. He was in fact hugely sexist, thought women were lesser in every way, and used it as a line to hit on women including me. I was young and dumb.

My understanding was that a feminist was someone who wants equal opportunities, respect etc for women. I would like to understand your definition, as it appears to exclude men. I'm not here to argue, only to learn. Thank you in advance for any guidance you can provide.

I will say that the idea that men should not call themselves/cannot be feminists (that they are “allies”) was something I had never heard of being raised by a feminist mother in the US. I didn’t know about the diction issue until I started reading radfem/GC stuff.
