  1. An appropriately respectful tone should be used in all reporting of sexual violence and rape.

Whilst headlines are designed to be attention-seeking, they need to be carefully considered. It is not okay to say: 'Man who had sex with 12 year old, found guilty' as this implies consent on the child's part. It is statutory rape and should be named as such

When the media misrepresents rape cases, rapists or sexual assault survivors, everyone loses. It prejudices juries, and makes it harder for survivors to seek justice. We're calling for now.

This relates the rise in unwanted violence during sex to the consumption of porn. It should also consider how readily the media accept that people die after a ‘sex game went wrong’ Nobody can consent to this

Rape myths make it harder for survivors to talk about what has happened, because they are more likely to encounter prejudice and false beliefs. Time's up!

Yes, some things are difficult to grasp but consent is not one of them. We’re looking forward to this valuable resource being launched on 3rd February...

Unlike we don't think it's okay to label the man who chose to sexually assault a teenager on his wedding day as a 'Groping Groom' Also, it's great to know that 'his life can go on.' Stupid humour and totally the wrong angle

Rape myths often justify male violence against women by suggesting rape is a crime of passion, or an act that can be blamed on alcohol, drugs or mental illness. There are no excuses. 100% of the responsibility for rape lies with the perpetrator

Rape myths often perpetuate male violence against women by placing blame on the victim, excusing the rapist, and minimising or justifying the act of rape

False views about rape lead to victim blaming, shaming, questioning of the survivor's honesty, and other problems

  12. People in same sex relationships are just as likely to experience sexual abuse and rape as straight people. LGBT+ people can find it difficult to seek support because of the additional stereotypes and prejudices they face.

  13. Rape myths are prejudicial, stereotyped and false beliefs about sexual assaults, rapists, and rape victims. They often help to excuse sexual aggression, create hostility toward survivors, and prejudice criminal prosecution

This is why you should never ask someone why they didn’t fight back.

  17. A very powerful interview on with showing how much rape myths silence survivors. But it was wrong to ask ‘had she thought if coming forward earlier would’ve saved others.’ It is the rapist who is responsible for raping no-one else.

Sex without consent is rape. Headlines that use 'sex' instead of 'rape' reinforce the idea that consent isn't important, and blur the line between consensual and unlawful behaviour.

  19. A child cannot consent to sex. The term 'child porn' implies consent. Let's call it what it really is: image-based child abuse. We are calling for a set of minimum standards when reporting on or representing rape and sexual violence in the media.

  20. Sexual violence survivors often struggle with feelings of shame and self-blame. Survivors also often fear that others will blame them or that they won't be believed. Sexual violence myths can reinforce these feelings and fears
