As I've said before many times, "Every single time we decide to mandate immediate OA & to accelerate publishing due a disease/health crisis, we must pause and ask ourselves how we do not mandate it for all research." It's just heartbreaking and maddening to keep repeating this.

It will be interesting to see how the various facets of the community respond to this, short and longer term. Theoretically it's a "better" measure, but has nothing of the appeal that IF exerts over researcher egos. It's "good" that it doesn't, but may sadly also be its defeat.

"The scientific enterprise has accumulated a shameful lag with respect to the democratizing potential [of] the internet... Worse: it actually supports and funds those who are most engaged in the combat against this democratization."

Advancing this as an argument to say that pre-prints but not peer-reviewed papers are bad, when several high profile papers have recently been retracted (although, you can be guaranteed, not nearly as many as should have been!) is the absolute height of intellectual dishonesty.

English version of the manifesto finally live! "...success in science has become more synonymous with knowing how to please publishers than with deepening human knowledge of nature and enriching our cognitive experience of our universe."

Sunday afternoon fun. Take the square root of your total citation count and divide by 2 and you'll pretty much end up with your H-index. Thanks to Ian Rowlands for this little gem, further proving that the H-index is just a function of total cites & as such is totally redundant.

In a recent interview with , director hit back at his thousands of researcher critics with the argument we predicted, indeed validated, 1 month ago. A thread to be read in full by any resrarchers who missed it and who aren't afraid of mirrors.
