Oil subsidises energy renewable energy production. All current renewables that are anywhere near producing enough for industrial civ is oil subsidised. As oil depletes costs rise and it gets harder to maintain current use needs let alone transition costs

(Renewables still cost oil in terms of their own production, distribution networks, and maintenance. Photovoltaic cells are made from oil. Like Edmund says, we don't know what's coming down the line. I'm in a hope for the best, prepare for the worst mood)
