Practical= letting go of activism and just being a dad (hedonistically optimal for me) but for others could mean getting high, which is fine

Got ya. I'd agree up to a point. Being a dad - a good one at least - seems more important than activism. Hedonism, getting high, is a perfectly acceptable way of getting through the day, until it isn't.
