Currently, public sub counts are abbreviated in most but not all places across YouTube. In August, we’ll make this more consistent by always showing abbreviated sub counts publicly. If you're taking creator opinions into account at all, I think this is a clear downgrade. I'd rather every instance of the sub count show the exact number than to be limited to an abbreviated count. But I don't think either should happen. Consistency isn't always preferable.

While it can admittedly lead to unhealthy preoccupations with performance, public sub counts often drive competition and encourage creators to produce better content. Please consider the ramifications of forcing this change on every user.
