Imagine if Trump rather than Biden had just won a major victory toward permanently silencing a journalist who revealed major corruption by the Trump campaign and RNC (rather than Hillary/DNC). Every CNN, NBC, NYT, WP employee would be in red alert mode. Instead: barely a wisp.

I don't agree with everything here, but I do agree with the take-home -- that the "unvaccinated" are not a homogeneous group that confirms liberal biases. Not just in the US but elsewhere too.

This could also be one of the reasons why so many academics (& other intellectuals) jumped onto the post-truth bandwagon (something I delve into here: )

Bush did much more harm, real not rhetorical, than Trump. Period. But the one sin he did not commit, and which Trump did (whether by accident or by design), is to threaten American exceptionalism. That virtue was enough to win Bush establishment legitimacy & eventual absolution.

In December, I wrote about the narrative of post-truth that emerged in 2016 & was pushed by liberal intellectuals, largely uncritically: The article tackles a different issue & from a different angle but nevertheless complements this one.

See also my article on the post-truth narrative for a different but complementary perspective. I conclude by emphasizing that " nuanced, context-specific analysis of contemporary issues should never be sacrificed for the security of simplicity."

If this past week illustrates anything, it's that the vast majority of the press in the United States are far more committed to holding power accountable when officials try to end wars than they are when they launch wars

Important reminder of the indirect inpact of -19 on children. Lancet modelling study estimates the numbers of children affected by COVID-19-associated orphanhood and deaths of caregivers.

Just to remind liberal elites that it has always been thus. It was so before & during Trump & will be so after him too.

Am alerting participants to this critical take on the post-truth narrative: I draw primarily on the work by . & Jannick Schou on the relationship between truth and democracy, but also many others such as Kathryn Braun.

Agree entirely, which is why the emphasis on some nebulous "science" (e.g., in March for Science) without defining what we mean by it is not very productive in this discussion.

There is good reason to mistrust science in some cases, for example with respect to historical injustices (e.g., minorities re early vaccine efforts or political campaigns in the garb of science). Excellent point by Prof. Maria Baghramian.
