Vacationing in late-Soviet Estonia, I sensed—as a child—that Estonians were different from us. I never had this sense about Ukrainians.

Slavs *are* different from Kazakhs, but operate w/in the Eurasian/Heartland geo-paradigm. Estonians are w/in Europe.
